ABOUT THE ART PIECE

Large Scale Street Art in Soweto, South Africa

In 2017 I was approached by a local beer brand called Soweto Gold.  With it’s roots in Soweto there was no better place to to tell an incredible success story of humble beginnings than on one of South Africa’s largest and most monumental structured – the Soweto Towers.

This illustration on one of these famous decommissioned cooling towers focuses on the everyday seemingly mundane lives of South Africans and how this is where I believe our country’s true beauty lies.  Here I celebrate all that makes us South African and honour every South African and our unique identity on this tower – from kasi living, music, fashion, sport, language, diversity, overcoming a brutal past but striving to reach our unbridled potential.
