The Abstract Colorful Paintings And Artwork Of Artist Patrick Akpojotor.

ABOUT ARTWORK

” My work is influenced by my fascination with African masks, the built space and architecture and its ability to shape ones identity. I am interested in the differences in human attitude, relating to the culture of a built environment that they inhabit. I have also observed how structures like architectures, roads and public spaces are named after people, which create an awareness of the person’s good deeds and archive his or her existence.

My work merges together visual references of the built environment, geometry, human forms and imagined structures to create abstract composition that interrogates our sense of balance and perception that challenges us to see  differently. Taking references from my memory and personal projections, I create works by deconstructing the spaces I have lived in, spaces I hope to experience, bringing the interior to the fore, while bearing in mind the law of perspective in my composition. My surface becomes a playground where forms, colours, perspective, and space comes to play and interact. The use of geometry and architectural elements highlight the influence of the built environment in shaping our memories, experiences and identities in the world. ” – Patrick Akpojotor
