ABOUT BURNING LOTUS

“I get asked where I’m from a lot. I’m a Texan. I’ve lived in Texas all but two years of my life (and those two years were when I was a very young girl). I travel some for work and sometimes think I’d like to live in other places, but I’m very happy where I live. My tattoos are semi-normal here. My hair seems to be a bigger deal for most. Go figure.

I got my first tattoo when I was 37 and it was a birthday present to myself. It has been incorporated into the back piece of what I call the Climbing Tiger. It is a Zen calligraphist version of Om. You can see it on my left shoulder blade.

The Climbing Tiger back piece was done over the course of 13 or so months and started in 2006. It is done in the classical Japanese style by a renowned artist. I love it – not only for it’s beauty but also for its rich symbolism to both me and as an expression of an art form.

The Twin Lotuses on my left shoulder cap was done in 2007. The Cherry Blossoms on my right shoulder was in 2011. Both are done in the grey wash style and were done by two different artists but designed to refer to each other.

The Burning Lotus was 2008. That is the one on my mound and, well, very symbolic. Very personal on the same level as the Twin Lotuses. ‘Nuff said.

Piercings – love them all. No one favorite. Aesthetic and sexual ka-pow for me. Nipple piercings hurt like a big dog, but the others are much easier to heal.

Exercise regimen – I’ve been athletic for most of my life. I train three times a week with a coach in Olympic weightlifting. I plan to compete in 2014 in the masters category in the 48K division. I am both small and quite light for this (not to mention being 53 now and 54 when I compete) so it will be interesting. It is a graceful, dynamic discipline and truly wonderful to watch a great lifter. *sigh*. I love it! My coach is amazing and I’m having a ball!

Diet – I am a carnivore and follow a Paleo type of diet for the most part. I eat. A lot.

I was trained as a dancer as a child and still retain great love and respect for that art form and discipline. I have a body that naturally builds muscle and I love the physical side of my nature. I have been a cyclist, Iyengar yoga student and teacher, a swimmer. I still dabble at these other forms of exercise. I like to be flexible and limber.” – Burning Lotus
