Artist Of The Day: Lora Northway

Lora Northway- Passage copy

These works are done by Canadian based artist  Lora Northway.

“This series began with an investigation into my family’s immigration to Canada in 1901. My great great grandmother Aina Wilen traveled from Finland at 17, became a key founder of the women’s movement in Thunder Bay… I was able to travel to the cabin she helped build, document rugs she wove, and uncover dozens of photographs of my family canoeing, working, building and fighting for the vote.  These paintings honour their lives and traditions.”

Eye Catching Art Exhibition We Liked: Faile’s Deluxx Fluxx Arcade Installation

“Take a turn with the specially created and programmed video games and pinball machines, or play a round of psychedelic foosball. Harkening back to the golden age of arcade games, contemporary punk rock and graffiti culture, this neon-laden, interactive, mixed media installation gives the audience a chance to genuinely engage with the work without feeling the pressure of the traditional gallery environment.”- Faile

This event of arcade nostalgia and  mixture of pop/punk culture was brought to you by the Brooklyn based duo Faile it is from their “Deluxx Fluxx” exhibition which was unveiled at Miami Beach on December 3rd to the 7th 2013. The arcade/art exhibition was wall to wall of eye catching pop punk art propaganda posters all over the walls and arcade leaving you as the viewer feeling like i wish this was my room.

Animated Gif Street Murals By INSA

Street artist INSA combines street art and hypnotic effects and both mashed together create eye catching hypnotic gif art. INSA described this as “online meets offline, hand painted animated street art”.

Using several layers of paint, retouching, and multiple photographs INSA produces the illusion of an undulating street art mural.  The laborious process results in several photographs of different versions of the same mural that are then combined to create an animated GIF.  The peculiar process allows for a real indoor and outdoor component to street art which contrasts online and off, digital and analog.- Via Hi-Fructose
