ABOUT KALI UCHIS
Singer, songwriter, director. from Colombia to Virginia.
inspired by Billie Holiday & Ralfi Pagan
The Colombian pop priestess shows that it’s fun to be alone in her dreamy new video
There’s something strangely calming about watching Kali Uchis dance by the jukebox, sip candy-coloured milkshakes and sing beneath the neon lights of an abandoned drive-in. Maybe it’s because her voice drifts like icing sugar over a cake, or maybe it’s because she’s completely, gloriously alone – and sometimes there is nothing more liberating. The dreamy track itself is titled “Loner” and it’s all about embracing your inner loneliness. “I wanted this music video to portray a strong sense of being very grown, content alone and feeling yourself,” the Colombian-born, East Coast singer told Dazed about the stylish self-directred visual, adding: “I was inspired by mermaids, call-girls, the actress Mia Farrow, the film Scarface and the director Quentin Tarantino”
