NYC Subway Urinal By Benjamin Nordsmark

NYC Subway Urinal Art Project By Benjamin Nordsmark

ABOUT THE SUBWAY URINAL

By using the NYC subways frequently I notice how dirty the trains can be, and they sometimes even smell like urine. So after looking on the shape of the seats a lot, they made the association of the urinal to me, and by combining these two observations the idea of the NYC Urinal came to life.

The creation is considered as an art object that potentially could have the function of bought a seat and a urinal, and relates to Marcel Duchamp´s “Fountain” from 1917 which is exactly 100 years old.

As an extra dimension I thought it would be interesting to use a cheap material as plywood and give it a completely new character by making it appear like the seat was actually built in plastic. Only a small area underneath the seat is left untreated to reveal the true nature of the material that was used.
