A mash-up of video game characters and photographic scenes. As a kid I would become completely immersed in these crude pixel environments and they would seem very real. I thought it would be fun to try to express how gamers see these worlds. I spent many hours gaming with my siblings and friends when I was growing up and this aesthetic has really come to represent that time.

These 3-D crossover illustrations meets the real world are done by Beijing based chemical engineering student/ illustrator known as Gaikuo-Captain. These creations manifested out of a search for a cool Weibo profile picture into an experiment with illustrations/famous comic book characters crossing over into the real world literally popping out of the walls.
MISHKA started in the early 2000’s after Greg stayed over Mikhail’s house in Brooklyn one night.
Greg had just got back from Europe and had purchased a very obscure black metal record from a band called Sacrifyx. A band who, it is rumored, died in a plane crash the night after recording their kvlt opus. The rumor also claimed that they buried a powerful prayer to Satan on the record.
So, of course, the boys decided to play the record backwards. Soon after, a gateway opened up in Mikhail’s bedroom.
What happened after that, not too many people are certain…
…But soon after, MISHKA was born!
